New keyboard and mouse package...

Amazon.co.uk: Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 5000 (incl. FREE Digital Image Standard Edition Photo Editing Software): Electronics & Photo

i brought one of these from staples yesterday in a hurry as my logitech mx1000 mouse stopped working :(

the cost of a replacement (not the same model) was £29.99 for another wireless mouse, the cost for the keyboard and mouse pack as shown was £34.99!

so i made my choice and brought the microsoft pack instead. I like logitech, i like the fact its not microsoft but the price difference was just too great to buy the same one again.

the installation  (yes you have to install mice and keyboards nowadays!) uninstalled logitechs software and required a reboot all automactic with a request for unistallation and rebooting before actions were taken.

after the reboot it found some more logitech software, i do not know what this one was but it needed a reboot again. whilst it was installing i unwrapped the rest of the package and then put the batteries in the keyboard and the mouse. i plugged the keyboard and usb lead into the back of the pc and it instantly found the new hardware. i then spent the next 10 minutes installing the free photo software which i have yet to run!

i like the mouse, its light and the scroll wheel is teflon smoove, it comes with a little magnifier when you click on the little side button, one of 5 which can be adjusted to work with different profiles.

the keyboard is a lightly curved model, not a much as the old microsoft pro keyboards with a inch gap in the middle, but curved nonetheless.

it has lots of buttons which can all be setup with different functions or websites that will be launched with a press of a key.

downsides - the mouse is not rechargable it runs off 2 AA batteries, i will replace these with my rechargables when they run out., it is also keyed which means that a left handed person who uses the mouse in the left hand will run into problems. i am left handed but i use the right hand for the mouse.

keyboards have always had lights on them to let you know you are typing in CAPITALS or you need the scroll lock when going through those thousands of lines of code. this one does not? why hmmm, i am unsure why this does not include one of the compulsory three

i can overlook these negatives though, i actually like the keyboard it is comfy and the mouse works well.
